Invisalign® is a popular alternative to traditional braces that uses a series of clear plastic aligners to straighten teeth. Each aligner is specially molded to fit your teeth and guides them to where they should be. Patients using the Invisalign® system change to a different set of aligners every few weeks as the teeth move closer and closer to their proper positions. These aligners must be taken out in order to eat and also to drink beverages that might stain or deform them. See our Invisalign Home Care page for more details.
Invisalign Teen has only a few differences from Invisalign®. While neither is faster than the other, Invisalign Teen® has an indicating system that ensures that the patient wears the aligners as often as he or she should. Another feature unique to Invisalign Teen® is the presence of "eruption tabs" to guide into place teeth that have not yet fully erupted into the mouth, for example twelve year molars.
As new technology, Invisalign® is continuously improving it capabilities of treating more complex cases. While there are benefits to the Invisalign® system, this treatment option requires more responsibility and compliance on the patient's part. Also note that the Invisalign® system can be more costly for the patient in comparison to traditional wire braces and even a similar plastic aligner system, called Orchestrate.
